Small Group Consensus Building Meeting #1

The first small group consensus building meeting for the CR 951 PD&E Study was held on Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the Bonita Springs Middle School in Bonita Springs, Florida. The workshop was held to discuss the purpose and need for the project. A newsletter announcing the workshop was mailed on March 18, 2003 to all persons in the project database. The workshop was advertised in the News-Press & the Naples Daily News on March 20, 2003.

Approximately 36 people attended the meeting. Aerial photography and maps along with the consensus building exercises from the first public workshop were on display during the open house portion of the meeting. Representatives from the Lee County DOT, and the Collier County Division of Transportation and its consultants were on hand at the meeting to answer questions and discuss the project with the public. Following the open house, members of the project team gave short presentations on the following topics:

  • The CR 951 Extension History
  • Summary of Public Information Workshop #1
  • Summary of the project to date
  • Update of the Lee County Commission's request to add the SR 29 - SR 82 bypass to the project

After the completion of the oral presentations the audience was divided into teams in order to participate in activities both as a group and individually. The first activity asked the team members to list the questions they had regarding the purpose and need for the project. The second activity provided a list of possible functions for the CR 951 extension and asked the participants to rank them in order of importance. The team members could delete any of the items on the list or add to the list.

Additionally, public comment was solicited regarding the project through use of an informational handout. Six (6) comment forms were received
